Stella Seigerman is a local artist who has had regular solo exhibitions for the past twenty years. Seigerman’s extensive travelling has been one of her major sources of inspiration.

A few years ago when visiting Japan, Seigerman was inspired by the traditional leaf motifs and patterns found within Japanese art and culture. This sparked the beginning of her leaf explorations. Seigerman was drawn to the beauty of leaves, their frailty and their inevitable cycle of birth and death. Collecting, pressing, examining, printing and tracing leaves of various shapes, sizes and colours intrigued her.

Seigerman began to incorporate monoprinting of leaves into her art making. Her work expanded to embrace collages that were also related to nature. The juxtaposition of colour, form and texture was essential to create depth, beauty and balance. Seigerman’s challenge is to form a cohesive whole, even in the most complex and chaotic situations.
