Guardians of Form and Content

What kind of relationship do non-Indigenous populations have with the natural environment?

Guardians of Form and Content explores the subtle and brutal interplay between natural and built environments, and how the footprint of human presence can impact upon the natural world.

Andrew Brown is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice examines the spatial and intellectual interactions humans have to each other and their environment. A psychiatric nurse for the past fourteen years, he has developed a significant insight into the cognitive processes of the human mind, which informs his creativity. Using a Polaroid SX-70, Brown captures serendipitous results from poor aesthetic photography, utilising both digital and analogue techniques to compose measured photographs.

Inspired by an artistic residency in Norway, Guardians of Form and Content looks at the symbiotic relationship that the human species shares with the earth.
