Abstraction, Intuition and Nature

Jamie Saxe is an artist, musician and composer who lives in the Dandenong Ranges. Saxe returned to his love of painting ten years ago, beginning a journey in search of his own style of abstraction.

This exhibition delves into Saxe’s interest in creating abstract paintings that capture the movement and patterns we observe in nature.

Saxe’s approach to applying paint is to avoid touching the canvas directly. The application of paint is applied by squirting, blowing and pouring which often moves through the flow of water. This then evaporates leaving the natural movement of paint. Saxe uses syringes, leaf blowers, dripping and angling the canvas in different ways to replicate the energy of natural movement.

This process attempts to create an intuitive, subconscious approach to finding form. Here chance and chaos meet intention that express a natural flow, imbued with kinetic energy.
