2018 NGV KIDS on Tour

Hands-on Activities & Workshops

Wiggle your toes, stick out your tongue and wave your arms – everybody can get involved with NGV Kids on Tour 2018. Entering its fifth year, NGV Kids on Tour is a National Gallery of Victoria initiative celebrating the major summer exhibition NGV Triennial and past exhibition Fiona Hall: Uneasy Seasons.

Presented in partnership with Eastern Regional Libraries, children throughout Victoria have the opportunity to engage with art through a range of free hands-on activities and workshops.

FIONA HALL: WHO LIVES HERE?
Collage activities especially for kids
TUE 23 JAN - 11.30AM
Create your own animal habitat. Using all sorts of materials, children are invited to respond to the natural world and consider the millions of different species that live on planet Earth. Animals, plants, fungi, tiny microorganisms are all living things. Choose to make a small creature such as an insect, spider, earthworm, snail or crab; or perhaps something bigger like a bird, lizard or furry animal.
Ages 4-12 | 30 minutes

FIONA HALL: SEND A MESSAGE
Collage activities especially for teens

TUE 23 JAN - 2PM
Express yourself and ‘send a message’ to other visitors. Inspiring an imaginative response to environment and the changing seasons, teens are invited to create their very own paper ‘emoji’ symbol responding to an environmental, social, or political issue.
Ages 13+ | 30 minutes

EVERYBODY PLAY
Collaborative Board Game
WED 24 JAN - 11.30AM
Explore the theme of ‘the body’ with this table based board game. Test yourself, your friends and your family. Shake a leg, listen up and get ready to answer silly and serious questions about the human body and show off your skills along the way. The race is on! Who will be first to cross the finish line?
All ages | 60 minutes

NONSENSE
Exquisite Corpse activity from Olga Chernysheva
WED 24 JAN - 2PM
Create your own nonsense creatures with this surrealist game. Gather around and learn how to play "Exquisite Corpse," a game used by surrealist artists to come up with fantastic—and often absurd—drawings. By drawing different body parts on folded paper, experiment with different characters to reveal hilarious results.
Ages 4-12 | 45 minutes

MY CONTEMPORARY ART BOOK
Sculpting, Drawing & Smelling
THU 25 JAN - 11.30AM

Inspire young children to think about contemporary art and design in a new way. To coincide with the NGV Triennial, this richly illustrated book shares stories of the NGV Triennial artist’s childhoods with different art activities created by the artists to challenge and stimulate.
Ages 4-12 | 45 minutes

EVERYBODY / EVERYONE
Circle Portraits
THU 25 JAN - 2PM

Did you know that in addition to your fingerprints, your tongue prints are also completely unique? That’s not all that’s special about you – we are all different and special in every way. Join in the celebration of EVERYBODY by drawing your own self-portrait or a portrait of friends and family during this workshop. Young artists will see their portraits on display, forming a large-scale portraiture installation.
