The Arts, Culture & Heritage Department at Yarra Ranges creates the space for arts and heritage in Yarra Ranges to flourish. This is done through the provision and facilitation of high quality cultural facilities, services and programs in a regional context.
Yarra Ranges funds six cultural facilities which deliver a wide range of dynamic arts and heritage programs and activities across the region.
In the Valley Region, the Upper Yarra Arts Centre showcases a range of professional touring performances and regional arts activities whilst, Memorial Hall, Healesville is a newly redeveloped multi-use performing arts venue featuring a proscenium stage, and seating for 300.
In the Hills Region, Burrinja is a multi-function arts venue offering exhibitions, a 400 seat performance space, events and education services along with a café and bar. Managed by a community committee, Burrinja houses the McLeod Gift, Yarra Ranges inspiring collection of Indigenous art whilst the Burrinja and Jarmbi Galleries showcase contemporary work.
In the Urban region, Mooroolbark Community Centre caters for the performing and visual arts with the Red Earth Gallery, 300 seat theatre and art making workshop spaces. The Montrose Town Centre includes meeting rooms, a 120 seat main hall with a stage and is home to an annual music concert program.
The Yarra Ranges Regional Museum is an 'adaptive reuse' cultural space in Lilydale that uses its collection to tell the stories of the people and events that contribute to the making of place. The Museum has a cafe space and manages a significant collection on behalf of the Community.
Further to these facilities, Yarra Ranges supports community driven cultural development projects and festivals and events in the community through its annual grants program. These consist of a variety of activities from community festivals, art in public places, community cultural story telling projects, historical societies, writing, new media projects, music, performance and dance.
Yarra Ranges is also home to a significant number of other cultural activities and iconic attractions such as, TarraWarra Museum of Art, Puffing Billy Railway, Healesville Sanctuary, large wineries multiple public gardens and parks and community museums.
